A líder da oposição da Venezuela, María Corina Machado, disse na segunda-feira (12/8) que o candidato oposicionista Edmundo González assumirá como novo presidente do país em 10 de janeiro, quando termina o atual mandato do presidente Nicolás Maduro.

Em entrevista a um canal de televisão, Machado disse:

“González será o novo chefe de Estado e novo comandante das Forças Armadas venezuelanas, e isso dependerá do que todos nós fizermos, os venezuelanos dentro e fora do país. Depende que essa força, organização convicção e compromisso que empregamos nos últimos meses e que teve vitória contundente se mantenha forte e crescendo. E por isso sei que em 10 de janeiro teremos um novo presidente”.

10 de janeiro é a data marcada para que o vencedor do pleito assuma o novo mandato, mas a perspectiva para essa cerimônia está incerta já que ambos os lados reivindicam a vitória. Maduro foi declarado presidente pelo CNE  (Conselho Nacional Eleitoral), órgão eleitoral do país, e teria recebido 52% dos votos. Porém, a vitória desde então foi amplamente questionada e não reconhecida por vários países.

Já a oposição divulgou resultados que apontam que González venceu em todos os estados venezuelanos e teve 67% dos votos.

As atas da eleição, que supostamente poderiam comprovar a vitória de Maduro, foram entregues à Suprema Corte do país, mas não foram divulgadas publicamente. Esses documentos registram os votos e os resultados em cada local de votação do país.

Alguns países como os EUA e a União Europeia anunciaram que consideram González como vencedor da eleição.

Ainda na entrevista, Machado completou:

“Estamos em um momento totalmente distinto. O mundo inteiro sabe que Maduro perdeu, que foi derrotado de maneira avassaladora e que hoje pretende permanecer no poder com a maior fraude da história deste hemisfério. Isso significa que não tem nenhuma legitimidade”.

Desde que Maduro foi proclamado presidente, protestos eclodiram por todo o país. De acordo com o próprio ditador em discurso, mais de mil pessoas foram presas desde o início dos protestos. Ele também já disse publicamente que Machado e González deveriam estar “atrás das grades”. Eles estão escondidos desde o fim do pleito.
